Sheffield Flats evacuated

Residents of a block of flats in Sheffield were ordered to leave their homes last Friday evening, after the ten-storey block failed a fire safety assessment. The South Yorkshire Fire Service found that smoke detectors and ventilators were missing at the North Bank building on Wicker Riverside, and that there was only one fire escape for the 35 flats on the top five floors of the block. Reportedly, there were also problems with cavity wall insulation. Last month, the fire service said it was planning to inspect all buildings in South Yorkshire over six storeys.
