The Scottish Parliament has ordered prosecutors to release evidence, including WhatsApp messages, relating to the leak of allegations against former first minister Alex Salmond. Allies of Salmond, who was acquitted last March of sexually harassing two civil servants, claim the messages suggest that Peter Murrell – SNP CEO and husband of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon – pressured police to pursue allegations against him to thwart his political comeback. On Sunday, Sturgeon denied a conspiracy, saying she would “never apologise” for doing all she could to ensure the complaints were investigated.
