At Opening Ceremony's Spring 2019, a Celebration of Drag and LGBTQ Life

There are shows and then there are showz. This New York Fashion Week, Opening Ceremony teamed up with RuPaul's Drag Race season nine winner Sasha Velour to present the latter, a 45-minute extravaganza called "The Gift of Showz," starring more than 40 LGBTQ models and influential drag queens like Miss Fame and Jiggly Caliente, who modeled Humberto Leon and Carol Lim's designs. Velour, in fact, handled much of the show—from the lighting, to the set design, to hand-picking the models. As you could guess, this show was less about the parade of clothing (though that did happen) and more about a celebration of the drag community, which has been marginalized and disrespected for too long. Each queen was tasked with reinterpreting a fabric from the collection for their performance look, while the others walked the short runway to cheers and applause from the audience which included Nicki Minaj, Tekashi 6ix9ine and Whoppi Goldberg.Christina Aguilera closed out the show with a surprise performance, much to the shock of the standing-room only venue. Joined on stage by Velour, Jiggly Caliente, Hungry, Shea Coulee, Miss Fame, West Dakota and her drag doppleganger Farrah Moan the diva sang her parts of "Fall In Line," while the queens lip synced to Demi Lovato, leaving the audience with another feel good moment of the season.
